Last updated: July 2026

1. Introduction

LYNKUP ("we", "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 ("POPIA"). This policy explains what we collect, why, how we use it, and the rights you have.

2. Information We Collect

  • Account information: email address, password (stored hashed), display name, and profile handle.
  • Profile content: avatars, bios, brand profiles, and posts you choose to publish.
  • Listings & sales: titles, descriptions, categories, prices, photos, and sale confirmations.
  • Messages: content you send to other users through the Platform.
  • Technical data: IP address, device type, browser, and basic usage logs required for security and diagnostics.
  • Cookies & local storage: used to keep you signed in and remember your preferences (such as your accepted terms).

3. How We Use Your Information

We process your personal information to:

  • Create and manage your account and brand profiles.
  • Display your listings, posts, and public profile to other users.
  • Enable messaging, follows, and sales confirmations between users.
  • Keep the Platform secure, prevent fraud, and enforce our Terms.
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
  • Improve the service through aggregated, non-identifying analytics.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. Lawful Basis (POPIA)

We process personal information on the basis of: your consent when you create an account and accept these terms; the performance of a contract with you; our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Platform; and compliance with legal obligations.

5. Sharing Your Information

Other users can see the information you make public: your handle, brand profile, listings, posts, and any content you send them. We share personal information with service providers (such as our hosting and database providers) only to the extent necessary to run the Platform, and under confidentiality obligations. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and users.

6. Cross-Border Transfers

Some of our service providers may store data outside South Africa. Where this happens, we ensure the transfer complies with POPIA, either through adequacy, contractual safeguards, or your consent.

7. Retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You can request deletion of your account at any time.

8. Security

We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level security on our database. No system is completely secure; you also play a role by keeping your password confidential.

9. Your Rights Under POPIA

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction or deletion of inaccurate or unlawfully processed information.
  • Object to processing on reasonable grounds.
  • Withdraw consent at any time (this may limit your ability to use the Platform).
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za).

10. Children

The Platform is not intended for persons under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.
